General Comments

Malaysia: This year's theme country

This year's theme country was Malaysia. The Malaysian booth introduced their culture by displaying traditional clothing along with Malaysian books. They also created an area where the visitors could experience Batik panting. In Batik painting, the artist uses wax to draw the outline of a picture on fabric. Since the wax resist the dye, the colors are only applied to the fabric that is outlined by the wax.

It was interesting to see how countries like Malaysia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia used this exhibition to introduce their culture in addition to their countries' books.

今年のテーマ国、マレーシア

今年のテーマ国はマレーシアでした。マレーシアブースは本と一緒に民族衣装などを展示し、日本の人たちにマレーシア文化を紹介していました。また、バティックと呼ばれるろうけつ染めの体験も行っていました。

今回のブックフェアでは本の紹介だけでなく、その国の文化全体をPRする場としてこの展示会を利用していることが興味深く感じた。
